We are happy to announce the launch of our new Featured Items Slideshow module. This module is a great way to enliven your Joomla! news articles, and encourage visitor click-through.
This module can display images from your Joomla! articles as a slideshow, with a caption taken from the text, and a link to the articles. It has some really handy features:-
- The module is smart, it can find articles with images automatically. You can just select a category, and it will find the articles and the images in them, without you needing to add anything to the articles themselves;
- articles without images will not be displayed in the slideshow;
- You can choose the number of articles, plus from a variety of orderings, including title order, most recently modified or created, number of hits, or random;
- Alternatively, you can select specific articles only to display in the slideshow;

All our featured items modules now include integration with JomSocial and Mighty Extensions People Touch. The modules can be used to display articles by the profiled user whenever a user profile is viewed.
Featured Items is our base module, it displays extracts from selected Joomla articles with article thumbnails. Featured Items Pro displays article extracts and image thumbnails in a variety of formats, including thumbnails and tab-panes, while Featured Items Carousel displays article extracts and thumbnails in a carousel.
These highly versatile modules allow you to feature Joomla articles picked by id, by section or by category. The articles can be ordered in a variety of ways, including by the number of hits, or by the modification date, allowing the module to function like the 'latest news' module, or like the 'most read' module, as well as displaying individually chosen articles, or used to display a random article.

Our latest module is a Flash slideshow for Virtuemart.
This extension can be used as a replacement for the Virtuemart featured items, top products, random products or recent products modules. It is fully integrated with the product database, the administrator just needs to select the module type in the the module parameters. The main images for the selected products are then automatically presented in a Flash slideshow.

Recent discussions in the Joomla! security forum have made it clear that a particular weak point of the Joomla security system is the front-end password reset function. If your site includes any extension that is vulnerable to a relatively common security problem - sql injection - then an attacker can potentially abuse the password reset function to change your administrator password.
This is why we think it makes sense to be able to block the password reset function for administrative users, and it is why we have created our 'block password reset' system plugin. This is a non-commercial plugin (and will remain so), and is freely downloadable.
Unlike other approaches to this problem it does not require any hacks to the core Joomla! code. You just install it like any other plugin and select the users or groups for which you wish to block the password reset function through the plugin parameters. At the moment it is just designed to work with the Joomla! user component, but we plan to extend it to work with other registration systems as well, such as community builder, if there is a demand for it. |
