If i remember it correctly, in previous versions, there were those "unconventional tags"...
In the latest documentation screenshots i can see some new date parameters.

yes indeed, you can now choose to display the modified date and/or the created date. Plus you can specify the date formatting string. This can be left blank, in which case the default Joomla format %a, %d %b %Y %H:%M will be used
