Hi

For personalised/unique products which have no gtin, should this be set to Yes, or No?

The tooltip says: Yes, but since there is no identifier, should it not be: No?

For such products, we need to remove the attribute for MPN and set identifier_exists to no
(FALSE). We must use the identifier_exists attribute to indicate that unique product identifiers aren’t available for those products.

I would appreciate your assistance in respect of the required settings and do we need to submit these products in a separate feed?

TIA

It should be set to yes. If you do this, then when the product has no identifiers (gtin, mpn) the feed will send the tag 'identifier_exists' with the value of FALSE, which is what you want.

If you set the option to no (the default), when the product has no identifiers, the feed just does nothing special, it just creates the feed item without the identifiers.

There is some logic to it being set up this way. If you submit a feed to Google and you just forgot to add the gtin and mps for some items, you actually want Google to spot the error and give you an error message, so that you are reminded to add the identifiers. It is always better to add the identifiers if they do exist.

It should be a concious choice to use the identifier_exists tag, the feed should not just silently do this for you, which is why the option (yes) has to be actively set.

But I accept your point that it can be a bit confusing.

I understand, I think!

The autistic (high-functioning) me struggles with "normal" folk's logic, at the best of times.

So, this logic causes quite a head spin.

Thanks, as ever.

Hi

This issue still persists, with Google Disapproving over 400 of our personalised products.

They claim:

"Item requires a GTIN"

The product is 'standard' up to the point of personalisation (name, age, shirt number, message...etc), at which point it becomes unique.

So, with Use Identifier Exists Tag already set to Yes, is there a component way to resolve this?

TIA

I think that your problem is probably happening because sometimes the gtin is a required attribute, it depends what category the product is in. When it is required then using the identifier_exists tag is not sufficient. You can see a summary of the attributes here, it makes it clear when it is required. support.google.com/merchants/answer/7052...43151-757669613&rd=1

You can try moving the products to a different category, it might be that there is a different one that is more appropriate if these are unique items. However I suggest that you try contacting Google about this, it might be possible to get them to reconsider the rejection.

This is a matter of Google's policies, there is no change to the feed that we could make that would make any difference to this.

Thanks, I assumed the route was to contact Google but wanted to be certain there is no less arduous solution.

We even have some watches disapproved, thanks to Google deeming them to be weapons!

It's probably an algorithmn. When you do actual manage to contact a human I think they are usually quite helpful so there ought to be a solution, just not an automatic one.
