Yes they will.

In our new extensions we will no longer be releasing ones that are compatible with Joomla 1.5, they will be compatible with 2.5 and eventually 3.0 and 3.5.

We will likely continue to maintain existing extensions that are compatible with Joomla 1.5, at least for a year or two. We will probably not attempt to make them compatible with 3.0 and 3.5, but will release new versions that are compatible with the later versions.
