Some other useful sites
Hotscripts.com has 1000s of scripts. It is a repository for both commercial and GPL scripts.
We particularly recommend Kompozer. This is free and provides much of the functionality of Dreamweaver. It is easy to set up and use. You can just open your site pages and type in your content, then publish to the internet.
There are a number of these available, ones that we particularly like are:-
- GIMP. GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. This is an open-source alternative to Photoshop, and does an excellant job for free software.
- Paint.Net. Originally intended as a free replacement for the Microsoft Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple image and photo editor tool.
- Inkscape. An Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format. Inkscape supports many advanced SVG features (markers, clones, alpha blending, etc.) and great care is taken in designing a streamlined interface. It is very easy to edit nodes, perform complex path operations, trace bitmaps and much more.
- If you want a quick way to resize an image and apply some filters you can try https://photo-editor.canva.com/ - it is free and completely web based.
