My client is an author's agent, and I'm using this plugin to extract certain book information from Amazon.com for books listed on his website.

I notice that when I use the plugin in an article in full view, it renders all the fields I have asked for in the Plugin options.

However, when I view those same articles from a Section Blog menu item, the rendered text is different than the info seen in the fullview article.

It's VERY annoying that this cannot be controlled... Is this modifiable somewhere?

Most people seem to like this - you are appparently the first to find it annoying!

We are planning a new release of the plugin shortly, to make it compatible with Joomla 1.6. When that happens we will certainly consider adding that as an option. The problem for us is that if we add an option every time a user requests it we can end up with a plugin with 100s of options that is confusing to use. However this does seem like a fairly useful one.

In the meantime if you would like to modify this for yourself you can edit the plugin code in the file amazonWS.php. Change lines 228 to 241 from
Code:
if (JRequest::getCmd('view') == 'article') { $replace_text = $this->getArticleOutput( $document, $pluginParams ); //$replace_text .= '**********************xml***********'; //$replace_text .= $response; //$replace_text .= '**********************xml***********'; } else { $replace_text = $this->getBlogOutput( $document, $pluginParams ); }

to

$replace_text = $this->getArticleOutput( $document, $pluginParams );

What I find annoying is the inability to CONTROL the output format, not necessarily the output you have designed.

Thanks for this

There are already quite a lot of options for controlling the output.

We could try to anticipate every possible choice that users might want over the output. Then add this as an option, with additional coding to support it. Then we would end up with a plugin that has 500 different options, and about 1000 extra lines of code.

It is not very practical. It will be slow to run and hard to maintain.

What we try to do is to anticipate the main options people are likely to want. If they want something different then we explain to them what they can do to modify the code accordingly. If the issue seems important enough, or there appears to be demand from several users for it, then we add it as an option.

It is not perfect as a system, but it is the only practical one that I can see.

We have added the feature you requested to the latest release of the plugin 2.1.0.

It is also now compatible with Joomla 1.5 and 1.6.

You should be able to download the new version using your original download id.
