Hi,
I'm using your Mod Newstab module and I have a couple of problems:
  • When I try to limit which categories supply item the module simply displays "No Articles Found"
  • I'd like to be able to limit displayed articles based on when they were created. Currently, if an old article is edited, it becomes available under the filter "Recently created or modified"

If you are getting 'no articles found' you are making a mistake in the setup somewhere - please check the documentation: http://www.spiralscripts.co.uk/Documenta...b-documentation.html

There are a couple of things to note, you have to select the actual category, just selecting a parent category won't select its child categories.

All filter conditions must satisfied - if you select a category and some articles, nothing will be displayed if the articles are not in the same category.

To just show articles by creation date you will need to modify the file includes/modNewsTabK2Helper.php, line 254 from:-

			case 'latest': $ordering = 'a.modified DESC, a.created DESC';
 


to

			case 'latest': $ordering = 'a.created DESC';

Thank you for your help. The php edit worked great. However, after looking at your documentation, I'm still not sure why I'm not able to limit the categories that display in the news module. I've attached a screen shot of the settings I'm using.

There are a couple of things that occur to me, I noticed that you have 'All categories' selected, as well as the individual categories, it is possible that this might cause a problem, try unselecting 'All categories'.

If that does not solve it, you need to be clear that, if you want to display results from a particular category or categories on an individual tab then you need to set the category ids on the individual 'Tab Ids' parameter, if you don't set these then no result will be returned.

The menu item that allows you to select K2 categories to filter results is used to filter by category when other tab types are being used, for example if you want to show random or latest news items, and only want them to show results from particular categories. If you use this filter then it will be applied to all the tabs - it is possible that this behaviour is causing some confusion. Note that if you use a category tab, and the category ids are different from the filter category then no result will be returned. I might think about changing this behaviour, it might be more helpful for the filter to be ignored in this case.

I hope this makes sense. The module is designed to be very flexible, but that does mean it gets quite complicated.

Susan,

Adding the comma delimited list of categories did the trick. I had tried unselecting 'all categories' when I individually selected the categories that I wanted to use for filtering, but it would turn itself back on when I saved.

This is working the way I had envisioned. I've set up the whole site to use K2 categories, and I didn't want to include things like 'About Us' and help articles in the news module.
