Now that I'm thinking about it, I really should use the language manger instead of code because eventually the site will be localised for other languages. I don't see a Language Manager. Do you mean to just edit the appropriate language file? Which one?

I mean the Joomla language manager, it's extensions->language manager on the admin menu. Yes, it is recommended - and easy to use. You just create a language override for each piece of text that you want to translate.

Thanks. Now I have a conundrum. I'm not a fan of messing with code because the next update will likely reverse my changes and trying to keep track of this stuff is hard.

Since you said "...it ought to be taken out really...", can I depend on it being removed in future updates?

I can't believe that I've never noticed the Language Manager before. In any case, everything is now working exactly as I want.
